Once again, the political is becoming all kinds of personal. John Green, author of hella young adult fiction, did a TikTok about finding out that people are looking to ban his book. Looking for Alaska. Book ban in 2022? How quirky and new. But what makes this ban extra special for Green is that the schools he’s heading to are the ones he actually attended. “You know what’s weird?” Green asked, “When one of the school board candidates in the school district where you were once a student wants to ban your first novel from all schools and libraries in that school district.” Green made the video with a story of my news 13 such as her background, in which Alicia Farrant is reported to be seeking to let’s talk about it other Looking for Alaska from Orange County School Libraries. “We have morals and values,” Farrant said. “There are thousands of parents with high standards who go to great lengths to make sure their children don’t have access to things that encourage them to have sex.”

“It’s weird on some levels,” Green said. “For one thing, I know some of the people involved. Like, I remember you from high school.” Green also criticized the tongue-in-cheek name of Farrant’s group, Moms for Liberty, which he sees as seeking to restrict others’ freedom to read. He is also opposed to the book’s lewd version of him. “I just don’t think Looking for Alaska it’s porn,” he says, “and I think reading it that way is kind of weird. So yes, please don’t ban my books in my hometown. It’s very annoying for my mom. Now she has to deal with all these people talking to her on Facebook.”
