Coco Gauff’s streak at the US Open ended when she lost to Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday night.
Gauff, the 18-year-old American, fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, as France’s Garcia allowed her no respite in this one. In fact, Garcia has yet to drop a set so far in this tournament.

Garcia, ranked no. 17 in the world to No. 12, she extended her winning streak to 13 matches and enters the semifinals against No. 5 Ons Jabeur as a real threat. Jabeur defeated Alja Tomljanovic, who beat Serena Williams in what could be the last match of her career, earlier Tuesday.

If there is any consolation for Gauff, she herself earned a top-10 ranking in the world after her 2022 Grand Slam schedule, highlighted by her second-place finish at the French Open.
However, if Gauff were to win, she would have been the youngest American to reach the US Open semifinal since Williams. She did it in 1999 at the age of 17 and won the Grand Slam.

Garcia becomes the first French woman to reach the semi-final at any Grand Slam since Marion Bartoli in 2013 at Wimbledon.
